Ryan Smyth – Chief Instructor
Ryan Smyth is a professional Brazilian Jiu jitsu Instructor and heads Atlantic jiu jitsu Sligo. He has been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) since 2004 and has competed at top levels in BJJ, winning titles such as the Irish National Championships and the IBJJF European Championships. He is an Alliance Jiu Jitsu Black belt, which was awarded to him by Alliance team founder and world renowned coach, Romero “Jacaré” Cavalcanti.
Ryan is a graduate of IT Sligo where he earned his Bachelor of Business in Recreation and Leisure. During his studies Ryan represented the Institute internationally in sport and was awarded a sports scholarship, and in 2013 he was awarded Highest Achieving Sports Person of the Year for his exploits in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Ryan is also a certified EQF Level 4 Personal Trainer, Wrestling Coach, Weightlifting coach; passionate about fitness and is highly motivated to help others reach their goals. So, be sure to take this opportunity to train with a consummate professional coach.
Morgan Smyth – Instructor
Morgan Smyth is a long time practitioner of BJJ, and brother of head instructor, Ryan. Morgan brings a high level of technical knowledge and coaching expertise to the Atlantic BJJ team. With a background as a Quantity Surveyor, Morgan has a strong sense of attention to detail, an important quality for an effective coach. He is an Alliance Jiu Jitsu Black belt, which was awarded to him by Alliance team founder and world renowned coach, Romero “Jacaré” Cavalcanti. Morgan holds an IAWA Coach Level 1 coaching certificate and is a certified BJJ instructor from the Alliance Jiu jitsu Association.
Dominik Szerszen – Instructor
Dominik Szerszen is a qualified BJJ instructors. Dominik has trained at Atlantic Jiu Jitsu for well over a decade, he is the first Black Belt promoted by Ryan and Morgan at Atlantic Jiu Jitsu. He holds an IAWA Coach Level 1 coaching certificate. Dominik is a highly decorated competitor and brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to our team.
Atlantic Jiu Jitsu Sligo is affiliated with IAWA (Irish Amateur Wrestling Association) under the aegis of the Irish Sports Council.
IAWA are the National Governing Body for grappling based forms of combat sport in Ireland.
